When I lived in L.A. during the destructive riots, I caught the lunchtime TV News one day that the famed Egyptian Theatre was closing that very evening. Expecting a rush of patrons, my wife and I hurried over to Hollywood for the “final curtain”, but were dismayed to find a total of only 14 enthusiastic fans. The Louis Gossett, Jr., film was feeble but at least we $upported the cinema! Then, to add insult to injury, the imminently unemployed manager rudely refused to put the houselights on so we could gaze once more at that magnificent and memorable stage.
