Located in the south-western Sydney suburb of Punchbowl. The Astoria Theatre was opened on 17th July 1935. It was an attractive Art Deco style cinema. Taken over by Suburban Cinemas chain in 1939, it was taken over by Hoyts Theatres chain in 1944.
Hoyts Astoria Theatre was closed on 4th February 1959 with Doris Day in "Teacher’s Pet" and "Flaming Frontier". The building was gutted internally and converted into office space.
Today, part of the building is in use as a reception hall known as Adeel’s Palace.
