Hays Drive-In

The Drive-In was located in the small town of Hays, Kansas. It opened in 1948 and parked 350 cars. It was owned by Glen A. Cooper. It was twinned in the early-1970’s. It was demolished in 1982.

This was a family run operation. The Cooper family eventually opened the Mall Cinema Twin in the city of Hays and operated a drive in and an indoor at Dodge City, Kansas as well.

It would’ve been about 2000 Old US 40. I think there’s a Pepsi plant there, now.

Wade Hampton Renick, Jr. built the Drive-In Theatre in Hays in 1948. Technically, it opened and operated for a brief period as Drive-In Theatre. It then became known as the Hays Drive-In. It was twinned operating some 30 years, again, technically under the moniker of the Hays Twin Drive-In Theatre. The Hays Twin was torn down in 1982.
