I’m not sure of the date of this picture, late 1980’s or early 1990’s I suspect, well before the demolition of both the Encore and next door Esquire in the late 1990’s. Only their facades would remain in the replacement Esquire Office Building. The Encore’s days of showing movies were over, a restaurant occupied some part of the interior.

The photo is from 1996. The leasee was going to have me manage a renovation project but he ran out of money. We were going to rename the theatre Pantages, and were funding the project by running a restaurant “Cafe Hollywood” in the lobby.
