The New Cinema was opened in December 1934. It was built for Messrs. Andrews and there is a possibility (not verified) that Bristol architect William Henry Watkins was involved with the building. There were 454 seats in the stalls and 70 seats in the small circle. The proscenium was 28 feet wide.
In 1945, a new company Clifton Cinema (Trowbridge) Ltd. was set up to purchase the New Cinema, and it passed over to the Clifton Cinemas chain. The New Cinema was closed in 1982.
It was soon taken over by an independent operator and re-named Focus Cinema, but closed again around 1983.
