The Sunset Drive-In was opened in 1955. It was the second drive-in theatre built by Moultrie entrepreneur and showman, Charlie Powell, and was done in partnership with the Georgia Theatre Company. This would be Powell’s last new theatre project. Other local theatres built by Powell included the Grand Theatre, the Moultrie Theatre, the Colquitt Theatre and the Moultrie Drive-In.
