Located in the Hickory Plaza Shopping Center, the Crown Cinemas when it opened in 1977 was Hickory’s first multiplex cinema and the first in all of Catawba County under Fairlane-Litchfeld Theatres. By the mid-1990’s, two more screens were added when United Artists Theatres took over ownership of the Crown Cinemas. It remained under the UA banner until it close in the mid-2000’s.

Cinematour is planning a trip to the Carolinas and I really really wanted to get into this theatre. I e-mailed the leasing agent and they seemed amenable to getting us in for photos… but they just tore it down.
