Located in the East Ayrshire village of Mauchline, east of the city of Ayr. The building was previously a church, and the auditorium was located at the rear of shops. The Abbey Cinema was opened by 1944 and was operated by R. Lawrence. It had a 16 feet wide proscenium and was equipped with BTH sound system.

By 1954, CinemaScope had been installed and the proscenium widened to 20 feet. It now had GB-Kalee sound system. The Abbey Cinema was closed around 1966.
