The MET Cinema was opened in 1986 as a twin in a conversion of a former carpet store in a small strip mall in Oakhurst, which is not far from Yosemite National Park. A third screen was added by 1990, and an additional two later on in a section of new construction added at the end of the strip mall closest to the original theater; for some time, this addition was labeled the MET Cinema Too (apparently for reasons having to do with the allocation of parking spaces); however, the MET was operationally a five-plex when it was closed in November of 2012.
