Malvern Picture Palace

Located in the Beeston Hill district to the south of Leeds. The Malvern Picture Palace was opened on 23rd December 1912. In around 1930 it was equipped with an RCA sound system.

Always independently operated, by the same owners of the Lounge Cinema, the Malvern Picture Palace was closed on 26th August 1971 with “Carry On Sergeant” and “Carry On Teacher”.

It was later demolished and housing was built on the site.

never went to this cinema when it was open but always loved watching the neon pendulum which was under the clock. I did go and have a look round inside after it closed and was more a home for the pigeons. The seats were all still in place and the screen very sad to see it in such a state.
