As part of the regeneration of the St John’s area of Northampton, a new cinema is being built at the back of the Royal & Derngate Theatre’s in Northampton to open in June 2013. Managed by Royal & Derngate, in partnership with Cityscreen, the 90-seat cinema will have state of the art sound and digital projection equipment and luxurious leather seating, with individual side tables, allowing audiences to enjoy a glass of wine as they watch a film.
The steel structure of the new building was constructed on-site at the end of February 2013. The foundations are now in place with brickwork starting at the beginning of March 2013. The outer panels for the new building are being constructed off-site and the cinema seats are on order.
The £500,000 venue will show independent films and documentaries, not usually screened in Northampton’s main cinemas. There are plans to hold question-and-answer sessions with film- makers, themed film seasons, film festivals, matinee showings for the over-60’s and baby-friendly screenings. It has not yet been decided which film will be screened to mark the opening of the cinema.

I have taken this image from the Royal & Derngate website and will replace it with a suitable photograph when construction is complete.
thank you PaulB52, Can’t wait for the “Pod” to open. Northampton needs an “art House” the mainstream houses don’t cater for anything really other than general release with the odd opera/stage production at Cineworld for which they charge high admission prices.
