The Viccar Theatre opened in the late-1940’s in downtown Williamston. It was across the street from the Watts Theatre (later the Cinema, finally the Galaxy Theater) and next door to Rose’s 5-10-25 Cent Store (which was built a few years after the Viccar Theatre). The Viccar Theatre still stands but has been converted to retail.

I thought this building looked like an old Cato’s. A similar fa├žade was on the downtown Greenville Cato’s (a converted WT Grant dimestore – since demolished). If any of the old Viccar Theatre building remains, it would be the only theater building left in Martin County. Williamston never had a shopping-center cinema.
