If I have my information correct the Shelton at one time was known as the Fine Arts and played adult fare.
It was actually the Shelton Fine Arts
so i believe the Fine Arts was a small, regional chain? there was a westport fine arts 1 and 2 and the brookfield fine arts which closed down many years back. check the post i made from a few weeks ago about what we found.
Here is a 1960’s photo of the Shelton Theater.
Listed as the Shelton Theatre in the 1941 edition of Film Daily Yearbook with a seating capacity given as 550.

This theater opened in 1915 and closed in the mid 70s. A picture is in Images of America: Shelton on page 119.
A Kilgen theater organ opus 4144 size 2/3 was ordered for the Shelton Theater in 1928, but the order was cancelled; parts put back in stock.
Does anyone knows what remains from the original theater inside the building today ?
In the 1960’s the owner of this theater changed the name to “Shelton Fine Arts Theatre”. It had sunk to the point where it showed Adult Films. It had sunk that low. (It was not a chain)
As a theater, that was it’s ‘Last Hurrah’.
