The Beverly Theater was the original theatre at the Columbus Square Mall. I remember going to movies there when I was a kid. I saw “Goldfinger” and “Herbie…” and lots more. It was torn down to make way for mall expansion. Now the mall has been demolished. I believe it was operated by Martin Theatres, who operated almost every other theatre in the area.

The new theatre built at the renovated mall in 1975 to replace the Beverly Theater was the Columbus Square Twin (later Columbus Square Cinemas), which were operated by Martin Theatres & Carmike.

Did this theater’s name actually use the spelling Beverley, rather than the standard Beverly?

The Mall Hall of Fame (which uses the standard spelling Beverly) says that Columbus Square was dedicated on March 25, 1965. As the theater was inside the mall, it most likely began operating the same day the mall did.
