Eric Reading at night

The Sameric Corp of Philadelphia opened the Eric Reading in a shopping center on August 5th, 1970 with “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”. Richard Wolfe (operator of Northampton’s Roxy Theatre) described its location “located on the 5th Street Hiway (Route 222)just a few miles north of the city. It was at the end of a row of stores on the left end with parking going around the left side. It stood next to an A&P market which was to it’s right on a slight angle. It was one of those red brick colonial A&P’s”.

After 1989, each of the two auditoriums were twinned. The theatre continued as a discount house until closure around 2007.

Actually it did not close in 1989. It was carved up in to 4 screens (each side of the twin was front/back) where it continued as discount house until about 5 or 6 years ago.
