Picture House

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Located in Forres, Moray. The Picture House was opened in 1927 to replace rhe Lyceum Cinema. It was designed by architectural firm R. Carruthers, Balantyne & Taylor. The auditorium has a tin ceiling (still in situ today). The proscenium was 21 feet wide. The projection box was located under the balcony behind the rear stalls. In around 1930 it was equipped with a British Acoustic(BA) sound system. In the late-1930’s the screen end of the auditorium was altered to the plans of architect Alister Gladstone MacDonald and the proscenium was now 24 feet wide. The Picture House was closed in 1964.

After laying empty for a while, the building was taken over by a furniture storage company. The auditorium has since been sub-divided horizontally, and is now in use as White & Company, household removals.
