“July 1929: laying the cornerstone for the Marshall Field & Co department store, at the corner of Church and Sherman, in #Evanston. The store opened to the public on Saturday, November 23, 1929. It included a beauty salon, an "evening room” for the selection of formal apparel, a millinery section, and sections for toys and books. Thousands of people toured through the new store on its opening day (each visitor was given a rose at the entrance) and throughout the store “models paraded in the aisles” showing off the newest fashions."
