The Rex Theater was opened in 1920. It was badly damaged by a fire in 1928 and was rebuilt and renamed Nevada Theater. It was still operating in the 1960’s.

From the Douglas County Historical Society:

The Nevada Theater was located on the west side of Main Street, Gardnerville, just north of the current day J T Bar & Grill. We have two postcard setup images, which include the theater, which is minimally visible due to the theater sign being readable with a magnifying glass.

This would give the Nevada Theatre’s address as approximately 1430 Main Street, between J T Bar and Grill and Yager’s Garage. Sanborn Map and news clip in photo section. It was called the Rex Theatre in 1923.
