Another downtown Waukegan movie house, down the block from the Genesee Theatre. The Times Theatre was formerly the Valencia Ballroom, which was converted into the Valencia Theatre in 1935. By 1943, it had been renamed Times Theatre. It went from first-run to adult films in the 1970’s before closing.
It was used as a “haunted house” for Halloween during the 1980’s, and later as a church for a short time.
It was demolished in the early-1990’s and the site remains vacant today.

The building was torn down in the early 90’s now just a vacant lot.

Was this once known as the Rialto? I saw a Chicago Tribune article from Feb 3, 1935 about a Rialto that had been closed for 8 years at 25 S Genessee being remodeled in art deco style by Pereira & Pereira, about 600 seats
Brian, the Rialto was a seperate theater. The 1945 Film Daily Yearbook shows the Time as open with seating for 800 and the Rialto as open with seating for 1622.
Does anyone know who owned this theater or where I might be able to get a picture of the Times? My father and his brother used to go there every Saturday in the 1940s.
This is a 1970’s photo of a Times theater in Waukegan, IL. I’m not sure if its this theater since the name is Times and not Time.
