Cherokee Phoenix Cinemas

The Cherokee Theatres were opened by Phoenix Big Cinemas in 2009. Phoenix Big Cinemas has facilities in 15 states including North Carolina. The 350-seat twin cinema featured digital projection and sound, digital 3D, online ticketing and stadium seating. In 2013 it was expanded to six screens. By 2017 it was operated by Phoenix Theatres Entertainment.

Is this theater being expanded? The Google Street View of April 2013 shows quite a bit of construction. There was discussion in 2011 before the Cherokee Planning Board to expand to 6 screens.

Numerous ticketing sites currently show movies playing on 6 screens at this site. (Fandango, Movietickets, Boxofficemojo, etc)

There was another theater in Cherokee in the 1980’s in roughly the same area, which I know was closed by the mid-90’s. Is this the same location/building (with obvious renovations and additions)?
