Canadian Theatres opened the Stampede Drive-In on Barlow Trail SE, north of Memorial Drive SE, in Calgary on July 12, 1968 with George Peppard in “The Carpetbaggers” & Steve McQueen in “Nevada Smith”. The opening night advertisement for the Stampede Drive-In in the Calgary Herald mistakenly identified its location at Blackfoot Trail.

The Stampede Drive-In was a single-screener with room for 1,100 cars. It was taken over by the Odeon Theatres (Canada) Ltd chain when it acquired Canadian Theatres' operations on January 28, 1978, then closed it down on October 30, 1979 following a final horror double-bill of the movies “Halloween” and “Phantasm”. Its site has since been redeveloped.
