Also Pope Gantt and Dr.Wingate Williamson helped in the renovation project.
In the Sept 7 1964 BOXOFFICE and nice story on the Remodeling of the Hamlet Theatre.300 new seats were put in,at the cost of $13,000.The total Remodeling job will run about $35,000.The Marquee got new neon tubing, new wiring and a freash coat of Paint.Local leaders to repair the theatre were:John Boney,James Stubbs, and Richard Conder. There goal is whole family entertainment,[In about Four years a whole new wave of Hollywood movies would be hitting small town screens, very few G-rated}.
Quite a difference between the photo from 1986 and the one from 2008. From what I found this was the Carolina Theatre from 1912 thru 1935, Hamlet from 1935 thru 1955. Could not find an exact closing date. It was operated by Anderson Theatre co. from 1933 thru 1940 and then Legendre Circuit after that.
Here is a photo from December of 2008.
This is another 1986 photo.
It was also just known as plain Hamlet Theatre.
1986 photo of the Hamlet Theatre.\, closed and in poor shape.
