Star Cinema Tonbridge

Located in Tonbridge, Kent. The Star Picture Hall was opened on the 9th October, 1910, in a former fellmongers warehouse. It seated 600 and stood opposite the Empire Skating Rink. It was prone to flooding from the river Medway and the seats could be dried out at the electricity works. The Star Cinema was founded by Charles Wilson of the Bull Hotel, and later managed by Reynolds Pictures and then Tonbridge Cinemas. By 1930 it had been equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system and a Wurlitzer organ was also installed.

Closed in mid-February 1939 and converted into a second-hand furnishers. The building survived until c. 1970 when it was replaced by government offices, in 2013 occupied by a Job Centre Plus.
