The Golden Rod Theatre is mentioned in old newspapers between 1910 and 1915. The proprietor was Robert Whitten. The location given for the Golden Rod Theatre was 13th Street and Louisa Street. Both of those streets have been renamed since the time that this theatre was operating. On a modern map, an approximate location for the Golden Rod Theatre would be College Point Boulevard near 21st Avenue.

Mr. Robert Whitten has had his Golden Rod Theatre enlarged by a large addition and will throw the enlarged amusement hall open to the public next week.

The moving picture and vaudeville entertainment of the Young Men’s Club of St. John’s Lutheran Church will take place Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Golden Rod Theatre, on Thirteenth street. A good program has been prepared for the occasion.

There mght have been an open air theatre associated with the Golden Rod Theatre. Published in the Daily Star on March 27, 1912.

Mr. Robert Whitten, of the Golden Rod Theatre on Thirteenth street, who has been entertaining the people of this town with moving picture and vaudeville shows during the winter months for several years, is making preparations to do so also during the summer season. Excavations are being made for an aerodrome on Mr. Whitten’s property on Thirteenth street, between Fifth avenue and Louisa Street.
