The Japanese Garden Theatre was located on Broadway at W. 96th Street, above the 1,718-seat Riviera Theatre. It opened in 1913 with 1,579, and was operated by William Fox. (each has its own separate pages on Cinema Treasures).
The Japanese Roof Garden Theatre was (as the name suggests) located on the roof of the Japanese Garden Theatre. Again operated by William Fox, it had a seating capacity for 1,024. It was still listed as operating in 1930, obviously only during summer months.
