Palasino Electric Theatre

Located in the southeast London district of South Bermondsey, close to the Grand Surrey Canal bridge. The King’s Cinema Palace was built in 1913, with 600-seats. Early in its short life it went into receivership. In 1928 it was acquired by the prominent cinema developer C.D. James, who re-opened it after re-naming it Palasino Electric Theatre. But he had grander plans for a replacement cinema. Taking adjacent land, this would have become the Kent Bridge Kinema.

However, Mr. James presumably received an attractive offer from Paramount, who acquired his site, together with further adjoining land. The Palasino Electric Theatre was demolished in 1929 and, on an expanded site, arose the 2,899-seat Astoria Old Kent Road (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
