Grand Cinema

Located in the small town of Great Harwood, Lancashire, to the northeast of Blackburn. The Grand Cinema was opened prior to 1934 and was independently operated. Around 1947 it was taken over by the Marks Circuit Cinemas of Manchester.

By 1963 it was operated by H & S Cinemas Ltd. and the proscenium was 21 feet wide. Still open in 1966, it had closed by 1980. The building was converted into the Presby Theatre for a while, and then the Grand Social Club, which operated until its closure in the early-2010’s. In 2014 plans were proposed to demolish the building and build flats on the site, but in June 2014, these plans were withdrawn.
