Opened in 1979 as part of the General Cinemas chain, the Market Place Cinemas, at the mall of the same name, contained four auditoriums, two seating about 320 each and two seating about 335 each. It originally operated as a first-run theater.
When the theater was acquired by the GKC chain in 1992, it switched to second-run fare. Four years later, the theater briefly became a first-run house again, but as this was unsuccessful, it soon returned to second-run films.
The Market Place Cinemas were closed in 1998 and demolished the same year, for an expansion of the mall’s parking lot.
