Boxoffice, July 1, 1963: “Two area drive-ins are rushing to get open by mid-June. Pounding the nails and sawing the boards at a frantic clip are workmen at Gabe Dilhuery’s skytop at Prior Lake ad Reno Wilk’s second drive-in at Minot, N.D. Both are being equipped by Minneapolis Theatre Supply.”

As I pointed out in the Minot Outdoor page, both drive-ins appear to be in the same location. It’s just that different streets are used in their addresses.

It does seem like they were two different theaters, but a better address will be needed to locate the Minot.

Actually, the Minot Outdoor and the Starlite were two nearby theaters with the same owner, Triangle Theaters. The Minot Outdoor opened in 1949 and the Starlite Outdoor opened in 1963 with both operating concurrently for about three years. The Minot Outdoor closed in 1966 with the Minot Daily reporting August 3 and 5, 1967, that the Minot Outdoor property would be redeveloped. For detailed information see the June 6, 1963, news story in the photo section.

Minot Outdoor grand opening ad for July 1, 1949, is in the photo section.

Starlite Outdoor grand opening ad for June 8, 1963, is in the photo section. (It was located at today’s 300 37th Ave SW, currently Holiday Inn Express.) The above address on the CT overview seems about right for the Minot Outdoor, closing in 1985

A closer address (at least for Google) is 3501 4th St SW, Minot, ND. Several businesses currently occupy the property with no trace of the drive-in remaining. http://tinyurl.com/zzhsrda

The Starlite Drive-In address and entrance was 300 37th Avenue, Minot ND. It was just off US 83 S (South Broadway). The back of the screen was on 4th St. SW cadicorner from the water tower. The screen is still standing.
