New Theatre de Luxe

The New Picturedrome & Theatre was opened in 1910, and was part of the Albany Ward Circuit. It was remodelled in 1913 with the seating capacity increased to 800, and re-named New Theatre de Luxe. It was mainly used for live shows, with films running at other times. It was taken over by Provincial Cinematograph Theatres(PCT) and in Febraury 1929 they were taken over by the Gaumont British Theatres chain.

G.B. closed the New Theatre de Luxe on 30th April 1932 with Clara Kimball Young in “Mother & Son”.

The building was later demolished and a supermarket was eventually built on the site.
