Picture Playhouse

This began life as Harrison’s Exchange and Mart but was converted to a cinema by Ambrose Adams in 1912. This silent cinema shared a pianist, Mrs A.E. Holdsworth with the nearby Camden Electric, so alternately each cinema was really silent! Closure came in 1922.

It became a London & Provincial Temperance Billiard Hall then from 1933 a covered market. Postwar it was a greengrocers, then from 1958 Harrington’s candies were made there. It was then taken over by Helios Herbal Remedies with a shop area refurbished by them in 2006 and the remedies stored in the former auditorium. This was trading in 2014. The premises can be found next to the Noor Mosque.
