Pavilion De Luxe

The Pavilion De Luxe was on Commercial Street in Shipley. It was at the junction of Rhodes Place and Commercial Street. It was demolished in the 1970’s and the Leeds-bound carriageway of the widened Commercial Street covers the site.

It opened on 2nd April 1914 and is listed in the Kinematograph Year Book for 1914. The original proprietors were Shipley Pavilion Ltd. KYB 1931 shows British Thomson Houston (BTH) sound was installed. KYB 1935 indicates 700 seats.

From January to February 1945 the cinema was closed for refurbishment. KYB 1946 indicates a new capacity of 630 seats.

It closed on Saturday 24th November 1956, showing “Princess Of The Nile” with Micheal Rennie and Jeffrey Hunter. KYB 1957 lists is as ‘Closed’.

The premises were used by Jarvis The Bookmaker until 1970.
