The ground floor housed a Mechanics Institute, and on the first floor upstairs was a concert room. In 1915 this was converted into the Public Hall Cinema. In the early-1930’s a Morrison sound system was installed.

The Cinema was closed around 1954. It was converted into a boys club in 1960. In the 1980’s and early-1990’s it was a youth club, and disco dances were held.
