The Rex Theatre was opened prior to 1941. By 1944 it was operated by Humberto Gonzales and was screening Mexican movies. The town of Zapata was relocated to higher ground in 1953 due to the completion of Falcon Dam which flooded the original town. The Rex Theatre was still listed as open in 1957, so it may have been rebuilt.
