This drive-in built on land purchased from the Council(Shire of Wongan-Ballidu) by Vic Basham, and operated by him from 1959 to 1962. Operated by N & P Gibellni(1963 to 1964). Operated by J. Basham(1965 to 1967). Operated by Rural District Pictures(1968 to circa 1970’s). 152 cars(1959 to 1970). 200 cars(1971 to 1984).

The original correct spelling was Mocardy (a long time Wongan family name featured in various streets and properties). The name was changed to Wongan Hills Drive-In when my family purchased it in 1979. We ran it on weekends (driving up from Perth each week) til late 1984 when videos became popular and affected trade. We pulled the screen down in 1986. The bio box and projection equipment remain intact as does the tuck shop and other outer buildings. The land is currently used to store scrap metal. The property remains in the ownership of our family.

The drive-in opened in February 1959 and closed in(1990?). The drive'in has been demolished. The site is now a car park and a building(name and use unknown?). The site was heritage lisred on 5/10/2001.

No idea why the Drive-in at Wongan Hills is called Morcardy?
