Located in the Harton district in the south of South Shields. The Palladium Cinema was opened on 18th August 1930 with “Elstree Calling” an ‘all talking, singing and dancing film’. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. Seating was provided on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear, rather than a conventional overhanging circle. It had a 15ft deep stage. It was designed by architectural firm J.H. Morton & Son, and originally had 1,018 seats. There was a free car park at the rear of the building.

The Palladium Cinema was closed on 30th July 1960 with Curt Jurgens in “The Blue Angel”. It was converted into a supermarket.
