Located in New Silksworth, to the south of Sunderland, County Durham. The Hippodrome Cinema was opened in the 1920’s. In the 1930’s it was operated by the E.J. Hinge Circuit of Newcastle upon Tyne, and it was equipped with a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system. It presented films and occasional variety acts.

By 1963 it had a new operator and had been renamed Rex Cinema. It was still open in 1966, but had closed by 1980, and was converted into a bingo club. This operated until the early-2010’s.
