Located in the west wing of the Northtowne Mall. Previously owned by the Regal chain (I’m not sure if it’s the same Regal that currently owns the United Artists and Edwards theater chains). The Northtowne 9 is currently owned and operated by the Golden Star Theaters chain, which also owns cinemas in Pennsylvania and Maryland as well as Ohio.

Previously had 5 screens, but now has 9. Not sure of when the additional screens were added or when Regal owned the Northtowne 9; I believe this multiplex had still another owner before Regal.

Also unsure of when the Northtowne 9 originally opened, although I know it eventually succeeded in driving the old-time Valentine Theatre out of business in 1994. Anybody with more information, please feel free to add to and/or clarify this existing info.

I believe DreamWorks Pictures had the world premiere showing of their film “The Prize Winner of Defiance, Ohio” in September 2005 at this theater. (Ironically, the film was shot in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and New York City, not Defiance, Ohio itself.)
