A search of the LA Times archive finds ads for the Green Meadows in March and November 1947. Other than that, there is no mention of the theater.

The theater building was still standing in 1980, according to this aerial photo. If you look at the building in the center that has the site’s name overlaying it, the theater would be the building directly south.

I would like to see a picture of this, if any exist. It must have been a better neighborhood seventy years ago. I would also like to see what the Rio on Western looked like.

9615 S. Main Street is given as the location of the Gloria Theatre in the 1929 Los Angeles City Directory. In the 1936 directory it is listed as the Green Meadows Theatre.

I was at this site yesterday. No pictures as the neighborhood didn’t appear very hospitable. The site is fenced off, but looking inside there are a lot of old trucks, trailers and so on scattered around. You can see the concrete portion in the front that probably led into the entrance of the theater. After that it’s just dirt.

I suppose this theater was near the Cairo, which would answer my question on that page about the address. I don’t know if I would put either theater in the downtown area, however.
