Located in Whitehaven, Cumbria. The Chapel Street Theatre was a conversion of a former chapel and opened as a live theatre in 1913. By 1914 it was screening films and was renamed Empire Theatre. By 1921 it was known as the New Empire Theatre.

Around 1929 Chapel Street was re-named Roper Street, and the Empire Theatre was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

The Empire Theatre was closed as a cinema in 1963 and was converted into a bingo club. That use continued until closure in 1980. It was demolished in 1983/1984.
