Regal Cinema

In Fakenham, north Norfolk, a former Territorials Drill Hall, built at the time of the Boer War, became a skating rink before conversion to the Electric Pavilion in 1920.

‘Talkies’ were shown from 1931. It was renamed the Cinema Pavilion in early 1937, but very quickly given the name Regal Cinema that May, in celebration of King George VI’s coronation.

The Regal Cinema closed in 1940. When I visited, in March 2001, the building was occupied by R. J. Francis Motorcycles and Cycles, which continues to date (November 2015).
