Cluj-Napoca, the second most populous city in Romania, is the seat of Cluj County in the north western part of the country. The city is considered to be the unofficial capital of the historical province of Transylvania.
Cinema Republica opened in 1963, the first widescreen cinema in Cluj, taking full advantage of its large, 1,000 seat auditorium.
In 2011 the Cinema Republica was transformed into Cinema Floran Piersic, named after the great Romanian actor, who was born in the city. The new cinema hall has 720 seats, an upgraded 3D projector and Dolby Digital sound system, and a café.
