Located in Tyldesley, 4 miles to the south of Bolton, Lancashire (today part of Greater Manchester). The Theatre Royal was opened in 1899. By 1909 it was showing films as part of the variety programme. The proscenium was 24ft wide, the stage 40ft deep and there were three dressing rooms. It was operated by Joseph Wood’s Theatres Ltd. In 1932 a RCA sound system was installed.

The Theatre Royal closed as a cinema in June 1958 and was never equipped with CinemaScope.
