Capitol Kino

Located in the west of Cologne city centre. The Capitol Kino was opened on 20th February 1929 by the Ufa chain. It had a narrow entrance on Hohenzollernring, but the rear of the building backing onto Bismarckstrasse had an impressive façade. There were 2,000 seats in the auditorium; 1,200 in the orchestra, 100 in loge seating in the front of the balcony and 700 in the balcony. It was equipped with a Christie 2 Manual organ which was manufactured in Great Britain. The Capitol Kino was badly damaged by Allied bombs in 1943.

(In 1954 new 1,000-seat Capitol Filmtheater was built and opened on the site. That closed on 25th September 1995, and has its own page on Cinema Treasures.)
