Hansa Variete Theater

The Hansa Variete Theater was built in 1895-1896. The Lumiere Brothers presented their early films here. Originally with seating for over 1,500, it served as a concert hall and in the 1920’s Josephine Baker appeared here. The Hansa Theater was destroyed by Allied bombs during World War II.

It was rebuilt as a small 330-seat after the end of the war and continues today as a live performance theatre.
