The building before demolition in 2015

The Bowmanville Theater opened on February 4, 1911 “with first run Independent pictures and illustrated songs” according to Moving Picture News of February 11, 1911. It stood on N. Lincoln Avenue at W. Winona Street in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. The theater was owned and managed by Fred Verch.

It is still listed in operation in a Chicago Tribune article dated October 27, 1913 on city theaters cited for “bad air”. By 1917, an auto parts store is listed at this address. The building was demolished in 2015 and is currently a vacant lot.
