Fourways Cinema

Located in the northeast Manchester suburb of New Moston at the corner of what was planned as an intersection of four roads; Moston Lane, Ainsbrook Avenue and Charlestown Road (the ‘fourth way’ Tindall Avenue was never built due to the outbreak of World War II in 1939).

The 1,350-seat Fourways Cinema was built and opened in 1939, and was operated by the G.B. Snape Group of Assoc. Cinema Companies circuit. It had a 38ft wide proscenium and was equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system. A feature of the foyer was a fish tank containing real fish.

The Fourways Cinema was closed in November 1973 with the James Bond film “Live and Let Die”. It was later demolished and a block of flats was built on the site.
