Florence Theater, 2/12/18

The Florence Theater opened in 1913, located on W. Chicago Avenue at the intersection of N. Western Avenue in the West Town neighborhood near Smith Park. It opened in 1913 for the Roncolli Brothers at a cost of $10,000 and could seat 289. In 1915, it was acquired by H.A. Falz and M.J. Bieschke of Somonauk, Illinois. The theater was completely gutted in 1917 in a blaze started by “crossed wires” on the organ that quickly spread throughout the theater. In the 1940’s-1960’s, the building housed a tavern. Today, it is home to a pet shop.
