CGV Cinemas opened their second U.S. location January 27, 2017, at The Source, a multi-level shopping, dining and entertainment experience with hotel, just down the boulevard from Knott’s Berry Farm.
Among their premiere films were “xXx: Return of Xander Cage” and “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” shown with Korean, Mandarin, and Vietnamese subtitles. The cinema will also offer films with Chinese, English, and Japanese subtitles.
Developed by CGV, the ScreenX auditorium projects a 270-degree picture on the main screen and two sidewalls. CGV says: “Inside every dedicated 4DX auditorium, motion chairs and multisensory environmental effects such as wind, bubbles, lightning, fog, water, rain, air shots, and scents work with perfect synchronicity with the action on the screen.”
Traditional movie snacks, burgers, hot dogs, nachos, wine, and beer can be enjoyed on the 8-screen, 1,187-seat cinema, with more benefits offered in their membership club.
Designers involved in the 500,000 square foot The Source are NBBJ Architecture and Gene Fong Associates, who note that 40,000 square feet are given to cinema space.
The South Korean based CJ CGV Cinemas opened their first U.S. location in Los Angeles’ Korean Town in 2010 and is the fifth-largest circuit in the world, covering seven countries with 276 locations and 2,877 screens.
