Palace Cinema

Located in Leyland, to the south of Preston, Lancashire. It was sited on East Street at Chapel Brow. The 470-seat Palace Cinema was opened soon after October 1912. It had a 22ft wide proscenium. The stage was 7ft deep, used for occasional variety acts, for which there were two dressing rooms. In 1931 it was taken over by the Regent Cinemas chain and was remodelled and equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. It was re-named New Palace Cinema. Taken over by the Union Cinemas chain, they went bankrupt in September 1937 and were taken over by the Associated British Cinemas(ABC) chain. ABC Closed the Palace Cinema on 18th March 1951.

It was taken over later that month by independent operator Victor Bell Cinemas Ltd.

In 1961 it was taken over by the Hutchinson Cinemas chain. They closed the Palace Cinema by 1963 and by 1966 they were operating it as a bingo club. It was closed in the 1980’s.
